Title: The Wonder Years ...new futures for aging workers

Who Should Attend: People who are within 5 years of retiring. People who have recently retired and are discovering that full time golf isn't all it was cracked up to be. Managers who are supervising staff about to retire. Do you wonder what the future holds for you? Many of us have no desire to retire the way our parents did yet wonder what else we can create. Many career couples wonder how their relationship will thrive when they're both at home full time. Many long for a life of golfing, fishing, shopping or travel yet secretly wonder if it'll be enough to satisfy them.
Workshop Description: In this 2-day workshop you'll have lots of time to 'wonder' meaningfully about the future and you'll be provided with some new models that will help you with the process. You'll explore your concerns and potential issues; you'll discover some retirement myths that may impact the choices you make; and you'll begin to create a plan for the kind of future you really want. We'll explore some of the many options that are available to us now that weren't available to our parents and grandparents. We'll also explore some of the health and quality of life implications of moving into retirement without previous planning. The focus of this workshop is on quality of life issues, including the impact of 'retirement' on relationships, health and longevity. While financial preparedness may be part of the discussion, it is not the focus of this workshop. Some of the topics you can anticipate coming up are: What is a meaningful life and why is meaning so important? Who do I become when I no longer have a job to frame my identity in the world? Even though I love my spouse how will I deal with all their little quirks when I no longer have work or the kids to distract me? What is my capacity for play and why should I care? If I've had a difficult life does it mean that I'll have a difficult retirement?

You are a couple who are about to retire and already know that there are pressing issues to be resolved or your marriage won't make it.
Spend two glorious weeks discovering what the future can become for you as you explore Portugal's Algarve, a retiree's paradise on the edge of the Old World.
Creative Retirement is an opportunity to reinvent your relationship so that it works for the people you have become, rather than staying stuck in the rules and traditions of who you used to be. People change over time, but frequently we continue to relate to one another from rules we established decades ago. This is especially critical for couples who own their own business or where one person is retiring and the other isn't.
Creative Retirement is an opportunity for you and your spouse/partner to explore who you have become and establish some new ground rules that will invite play and potential back into your relationship. You'll develop new options for living and loving. You'll renew and reinvigorate life's potential. Your business will achieve improved results.
Your co-leaders for this retreat are Gwen McCauley and Greg Layhew who have lived together for over 25 years and weathered many storms and challenges to their marriage and who are constantly recreating their relationship so that it is satisfying to each as they continue to grow and evolve as people.
Creative Retirement is being held at Villas D'Agua, a luxury resort in the charming seaside village of Olhos d'Agua. Your accommodation will be a one-bedroom townhouse with fireplace, air-conditioning, phone, and oceanview terrace! Villas D'Agua is only 5 years old and is furnished with euro-modern elegance. You'll have a well appointment kitchen if you prefer to cook your own meals, there is a restaurant and bar on premises or you are only 500 meters away from world-class restaurants and bars. Choices abound!
We will meet the 6 couples who register as a group each afternoon from Oct 29-Nov 3rd for an educational and discovery process. Each couple will be assigned daily 'homework' that they will be able to complete as they golf, walk, dine, shop or otherwise enjoy all that the Algarve has to offer. "Homework" is typically a self reflection exploration that invites discovery, increased intimacy and ultimately a growing awareness of new possibility and potential. Insights build as the week unfolds. The organic nature of the process allows lots of space for individual needs to be met and yet challenges each partner to get honest with themselves about their needs, desires and willingness to engage. While this is a gentle process, it is not for the feint of heart! Additional couples coaching sessions can be arranged throughout the experience.
During the second week of the Creative Retirement process, you'll be free to roam the Algarve in the car that's provided, continuing to explore the possibilities of your relationship that were identified during our week-long intensive. We'll reconvene on Nov 10th for a final conversation about next steps when you arrive home. Then you get to share a final evening together before heading home on November 11th.
All this for only $3,000 Cdn/couple, plus $2,216 Cdn/person for accommodation, flight (Toronto/Faro, return), car rental and airport tax. A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 reserves a spot for you and your partner in the retreat experience. A non-refundable deposit of $250* books your trip and accommodation. Full payment is due 45 days prior to departure.
